The Queen spoke about her fondness for Royal Ascot in her foreword for the official programme: "My family and I greatly look forward to Royal Ascot". It was apparently Queen Anne who first decided that the grounds on which the course is now set were flawless for a horse race, around 1711.

The annual five-day horse-racing event requires quite the strict dress code, including asking all ladies to cover their shoulders and wear hats and name tags. The ultra-modern frock featured an edgy asymmetrical hemline - a stark contrast to the sea of pastel-coloured dresses on show.

The Duchess of Sussex wore a stunning off-white Givenchy dress with a black-and-white hat to match for a flawless monochromatic look.

Meghan, 36, sported a long-sleeve collared white Givenchy dress with a black belt, making this the third time she's worn the designer in the past month, including her iconic wedding gown.

Harry and Meghan were next, with the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and waved as they travelled past the packed stands on their way to the royal box.

Kensington Palace also revealed this week that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will head to Dublin on July 10 and 11 for an official trip by request of the Queen's government.

For their first official royal engagement overseas as a married couple, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are heading to Dublin. "The visit is at the request of Her Majesty's Government", the tweet read.

The couple weren't the only royals on hand.
