Val Kilmer Returning For 'Top Gun 2' as Iceman

The Paramount movie, which hits theaters next summer on July 12, 2019 and is now in production in San Diego, follows fighter pilots who are entangled in a drone-driven airspace which has made their flying obsolete. The Wrap reports that Kilmer will return to the franchise to play Maverick's longtime rival in the upcoming sequel.

Val Kilmer has been confirmed to be reprising his role as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky in Top Gun 2.

The actor confirmed Top Gun: Maverick was officially a go previous year.

When Top Gun first came out, Kilmer had only two major film credits under his belt.

We know precious little about the plot of Top Gun 2 aside from the fact that it will supposedly be tackling issues relating to drone warfare.

Skydance CEO David Ellison and Jerry Bruckheimer, producers of the original return to produce the sequel with Cruise.

The movie will include another original member - for the soundtrack - because Kenny Loggins is back, too!

Well, guess what? Val Kilmer has been roped in for the second edition of the film as well which has been titled as "Top Gun: Maverick". Filming is already well underway - Cruise tweeted a photo announcing the project to his fans last Wednesday with the hashtag "Day 1". It's just a shame that Goose (Anthony Edwards) won't be there, but hopefully, there will be a nod to the character.
