Los Angeles County sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Nishida says the 14-year-old victim was shot in the arm Friday morning and is expected to fully recover. The teen who was injured reportedly drove himself to a hospital and is in stable condition. The LA County Sheriff Department tweeted that the Palmdale high school shooting appears to be an isolated shooting and that the weapon, a rifle, has been successfully procured by authorities off campus.

It is unclear what the suspect was aiming for, the sheriff said, adding that it is early in the investigation.

Johnny Lewis Sr., whose 17-year-old son is a student at the school, told the Los Angeles Times that he never thought he would experience a school shooting.

On Friday, a gunman entered Highland High School in Palmdale, California and shot a student.

Deputies said they had secured both locations, and were investigating.

Sheriff's deputies also received a call reporting shots fired in the vicinity of Manzanita Elementary School about 7 miles (11 kilometers) away from Highland High School.
