Syrian media reported Israeli Air Force jets struck several Syrian military bases with Iranian personnel.

The IDF announcement came moments before President Donald Trump announced the US was pulling out of the worldwide deal to limit Iran's nuclear weapons program.

"Nine fighters belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps or pro-Iranian Shiite militias have been killed" Rami Abd el-Rahman, director of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP.

An official with the Iran-led regional alliance supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad said the strike targeted a Syrian army position but killed a Syrian man and his wife passing by in their auto.

Following reports on social media in Syria at around 10pm local time of explosions in Al Kaswa, the country's official news agency later confirmed the attack. "Consider well whether to visit the Golan Heights until tensions in the region decrease".

A number of reservists were also called up, the army said.

There have been conflicting reports coming out of Syria. It said defense systems have been deployed. "The IDF is prepared for various scenarios and warns that any aggression against Israel will be met with a severe response". The U.S. embassy in Israel ordered government employees to obtain advance approval for any travel to the Golan, a strategic plateau Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 Middle East War.

"Western military sources said the military compound that was hit is located about 10 miles south of the Syrian capital city of Damascus", it reported. Israel is widely believed to have carried out the attacks and Iran publicly vowed to take revenge. Another pro-Assad source told "Reuters" that there were no casualties in the attack but other Syrian sources said two people had been killed.

While Israel did not confirm or deny the strikes, a state of alert was reported by its armed forces near the Syrian border.
