"Lines got blurred. I was hard". His former assistant Barnes alleged that Tambor had propositioned her, groped her, and made lewd comments to her. Barnes accused Tambor of giving her "butt pats" and making comments like, "why aren't I taking care of him sexually".

Tambor told THR that Jill Soloway contacted him with a show of support after he released the statement, which she confirmed.

Tambor acknowledged a "blowup" with Jessica Walter, who plays his wife in the comedy series (he says he apologized; she wouldn't discuss) but as co-star David Cross told newspaper AM New York, "A number of us stand behind him. and I am one of them". The Emmy victor, whom Amazon fired following an internal investigation, offered an emotional defense of himself, echoing his first statement about the matter: "I did raise my voice at times, I was moody at times, there were times when I was tactless", he said. "But as for the other stuff, absolutely not", he said.

The actor, who said he was preparing himself for "a slap on the wrist" before he was axed via text, failed to address Barnes' specific claims, but did say the reports suggesting he watched her sleeping naked were completely fabricated.

Following the firing of Jeffrey Tambor amid sexual misconduct allegations, Transparent will end after the show's upcoming fifth season, creator Jill Soloway said. "I am even more disappointed in [series creator] Jill Soloway's unfair characterization of me as someone who would ever cause harm to any of my fellow cast mates".

"But I was scared, because I was a cisgender male playing Maura Pfefferman". As the story broke, I also sent messages of support to Trace and Van, and after the allegations were presented, I never disbelieved them. "He came in close, put his bare feet on top of mine so I could not move, leaned his body against me, and began quick, discreet thrusts back and forth against my body", she said.

For her part, Jill Soloway told The Hollywood Reporter that "it's not a simple case of did he do it or didn't he do it".

"I said to her, 'Since you know the truth, would you make a public statement on my behalf?' It's my biggest disappointment that she hasn't", Tambor said.

After what he called "one of the top-five hard phone calls of my life", Tambor agreed to Soloway's suggestion that he would only appear in flashbacks as Mort Pfefferman, Maura's former identity, provided he was cleared by the Amazon probe. "I think that was generous of me". The show-runner and Tambor have not spoken since February. "I was hoping to get him there".

For his part, Tambor says he's already learned to change his behavior on set. "Just walking in here today, into this cafe, I hadn't seen the owner in a long time". Added Soloway: "Nobody said [Tambor] was a predator-they said he sexually harassed people".

Transparent is headed into its fifth season without Tambor as the show's matriarch, although, prior to Amazon's decision that the lead would not return to the show, Jill Soloway batted around the idea of Tambor playing Maura in flashbacks prior to transitioning, according to THR. "Got to go through it.' And I can't think of anything more typical in my life right now". "You have to be very, very careful if you're a person in power and treat people very appropriately".
