Smith crossed the finish line at Churchill Downs with only a few specks of mud on his white and green silks in the rainiest Derby in the race's 144-year history.

"It took a great horse to do what he did today", Baffert said.

Baffert, who ranks Justify alongside his 2015 predecessor American Pharoah, is now set to enter the Preakness Stakes on May 19, the next leg of the Triple Crown trail. He has got the mind for it."Justify captured the opening leg of U.S. flat racing's Triple Crown, which continues in two weeks at the Preakness in Baltimore, Maryland, and concludes with next month's Belmont Stakes in NY".

Good Magic was the only horse to have a serious shot at Justify turning for home.

"It was an unbelievable performance by the victor, on this track, going that fast", Derby trainer Dale Romans said. Almost 3 inches fell on the crowd of 157,813 throughout the day.
