Special exhibition: Paris gallery opens doors to nudists

161 art lovers left their clothes in the cloakroom for the one-off event, before the gallery was opened to clothed guests later in the day.

Palais de Tokyo, a contemporary art museum in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, offered a guided tour before opening to the general public on Saturday.

Nudists visited a Paris artwork gallery for the primary time Saturday and perused its exhibitions fully au naturel, the BBC experiences.

"The naturists" way of life is to be naked.

"The mentality is changing these days", Julien Claude-Penegry, the director of communications for the Paris Nudist Association, told Reuters news agency.

According to PNA there are 88,000 naturists in Paris alone and 2.6million members in France.

The BBC said the city of Paris a year ago designated a space for nudists in the Bois de Vincennes, or the Vincennes Woods.

In 2015, the Australian National Gallery of Art in Canberra opened its doors to 50-person nude tours in conjunction with the temporary exhibition "James Turrell: a retrospective".
