Local women build homes with Habitat for Humanity

Habitat Hawaii Island works with low-income families to help them build a safe, decent and affordable home.

It's the first time Holston Habitat for Humanity has organized an interfaith build, with members from eight faith-based organizations volunteering together to get the home completed.

"We're kicking it off in Charlotte but it's a national effort and there will be thousands of women over the next week working to build houses for women-led head of households", Habitat Charlotte CEO and President Laura Belcher says.

Morgan and Tapases helped build a home for a woman with three children. What we want in our community is strong families because strong families make strong neighborhoods.

Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County along with Lowes and the Police Athletic League gathered at about 8 a.m.to paint the community center and clean up the field and play areas. "I'm excited", said Segarra.

Museau says now he will be able to bring his son who is just 15 months old to the park and know it's clear of debris or anything that can cause him injury.

Rouse added the Women Build Week shows women have a voice. The homeowner also has to put hundreds of hours into volunteering.

The homeowner was impressed with the women working at the site.

McArdle expects her 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home at 199 East Housatonic St.to be completed by the beginning of her children's school year in September.

Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity and Lowe's teamed up to build walls for two families in need.

DelSonno choked up when she told the crowd how grateful she was for the community's help in supporting her family and that she intends to "pay it forward" with McArdle's home.
