Kerala: Two held for attacking scribes

RSS workers Dileep Kumar and Shibu were picked up from their houses at Vazhakkad near Areekode.

A journalist was assaulted allegedly by RSS workers inside the Malappuram Press Club on Thursday morning. He said that the government has taken the case seriously and that police have been ordered to take strict action against the accused.

"Two persons have been arrested already". Leaders of the Congress, CPI (M), CPI, Indian Union Muslim League and several other parties condemned the attack and demanded strong police action.

A case had been registered against 10 RSS activists under various IPC sections including those related to unlawful assembly and rioting besides the Kerala Public Way Restriction of Assemblies and Procession Act. He suffered injuries to his leg and was admitted at the cooperative hospital in Malappuram.

The incident took place when the RSS workers were provoked as Saneen took visuals of a two wheeler rider being attacked during a protest march by the RSS on Thursday.

The protesters blocked the road causing traffic snarls.

The police later recovered the mobile phone from the activists and returned it to Fouad.

On seeing Sanea taking some video shots on his mobile phone at that time, a section of the RSS workers barged into the club and allegedly assaulted him and snatched his phone.

Following the attack, protest demonstrations were held by media persons in various districts, including Malappuram and Thrissur.
