Seattle Seahawks release Cliff Avril with failed physical designation

Avril's football future has been uncertain since the injury.

Avril finished his Seahawks career with 41 sacks in 64 games, and also will be remembered for pledging to build a new house in Haiti for each sack he made during the 2016 season, when he had 11.5 sacks. Both players have been outspoken about the end of their time in Seattle, and head coach Pete Carroll didn't shy away from addressing Sherman and Bennett's comments in an interview with Brock and Salk on Friday morning (listen here).

Avril was injured when he dove at the feet of Colts quarterback Jacoby Brisset - Avril was hit on the chin by Brissett's feet, snapping his neck back and causing what Carroll at the time called "serious stingers" that caused numbness in his hands. "He's been a bit of a statesman for us". A great competitor in the program. "He's had a great career with us". He was part of a rotation at first but became a full-time starter in 2014. He has 74 career sacks, 34.5 of which came while he was in Seattle.

Avril spent five seasons in Detroit before coming to Seattle.

He was a key member of the Legion of Boom defense that carried Seattle to Super Bowl XLVIII victory.

Lib Dems mount mini fightback in local elections
The Liberal Democrats have snatched a flagship Conservative council in South Cambridgeshire which did have a Tory majority of 15. Major casualties include deputy leader David Lee who was ousted from his Norreys ward seat by Labour candidate Rachel Burgess.

The 28-year-old Thomas, a six-time Pro Bowl selection, is scheduled to make $8.5 million on the last year of his contract this season and Schneider said last month he does not expect the eight-year veteran to hold out for a new deal. He made a return trip to the championship game with the team the following year. "Your cheers on Sundays are unmatched, and you guys are by far the best fans in the NFL!". You all have supported my family, my foundation (the Cliff Avril Family Foundation), and I throughout my entire tenure, and I could not have asked for more!

However, Avril won a Super Bowl his first season as a Seahawk, and earned his only Pro Bowl nod in Seattle, too. I am forever grateful.

Avril's departure means the Seahawks will save $6 million against the salary cap.

The two biggest reasons the Seahawks are in the middle of an offseason of change is that defensive stars Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett are no longer on the team.
