There are also lines of clothing that come pre-treated with a compound called permethrin that acts as a repellent for mosquitoes and ticks.
If you're going into a brushy area or the woods, wear repellent that contains 20 percent or more DEET, picaridin, or IR3535 on exposed skin, the CDC says.
He says if you have to go into those areas where ticks are prominent, wear trousers and tuck them into your socks.
He also said ticks are common after camping.
Do a full-body check for ticks, and don't forget to inspect crevices like your groin, Dr. Schaffner reminds.

Of course, that can be tricky in the summer heat, which is why bug repellent is key. The CDC website encourages people to go to a medical professional if they feel ill. "Mosquitoes are weak fliers and can not fly against the air current produced by fans", Troyano explains. "Mosquitos can lay their eggs in them, even in a bottle cap if it's sitting in your yard", he says.
Help reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home by emptying standing water on a regular basis from flowerpots, gutters, buckets, pool covers, pet water dishes, discarded tires and birdbaths.
It's understandably tough to stick with all of these. If you're going to be in a grassy area, just be careful. If you have things like a bird bath or buckets, dump them out because that's a prime mating spot for mosquitoes.
