Fleury, Golden Knights know they must put Game 4 loss behind them

He posted three goals and four points in the Sharks' series against the Anaheim Ducks, and while some wondered if he was benefiting from a weak opponent, he's keeping it going against the white-hot Golden Knights.

Even though Vegas now has taken a 2-1 series lead over San Jose, all four second-round series stood tied after two games.

The Golden Knights converted five of them, including two during a three-goal barrage in a span of less than five minutes of the second period in Game 2. "I can't say enough about the guy".

But the San Jose goalie also delivered some big-time saves, including back-to-back stops against William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault on a Vegas power play in the final minute of the second.

Regardless, response to the Knights has been overwhelming, so whatever happens with the team's Stanley Cup run, the club will be staying in Vegas.

At the 15:37 mark, Sorensen won a battle for the puck in the corner to the left of Fleury with Vegas forward Alex Tuch and circled to this right. "We weren't at our best tonight but we'll be ready Friday night".

Hertl helped give Jones a cushion with his goal early in the second.

Later, with less than 20 seconds to go in the second as the Sharks were killing a tripping penalty to Logan Couture, Jones stopped quality chances by William Karlsson and Marchessault, nearly in succession. Hertl was in front and knocked in the loose puck to make it 3-0.

The erasure of a two-goal, third-period deficit brought the Sharks' goal differential in those aforementioned third periods (or, the ones excluding last Thursday's Game 1 blowout) up to minus-one.

The Sharks made some changes from Game 3, with defenseman Joakim Ryan returning to the lineup for the first time since March 16 in place of Paul Martin, and Donskoi getting back in after missing the previous game with a lower-body injury. The Golden Knights have been better in overtime this series, too, attempting 55.56 percent of the five-on-five shots and generating 52.94 percent of the scoring chances, according to Natural Stat Trick.

At the other end, the Sharks got to Fleury in the first period with a pair of pretty goals to take their first two-goal lead of the series.

"At the start of the game they actually had some better looks than we did".

Vegas was never able to recover from that early deficit.

NOTES: Nabokov made 34 saves in playoff shutouts against Calgary in 2004 and Detroit in 2007.

Though Sorensen had only five goals in 32 games in the regular season, he's stepped up his efforts considerably in the postseason.
