Brighton and Hove Albion must work hard to spoil Manchester United's momentum in Friday's Premier League match and get a crucial win to secure their top-flight status for next season, the hosts' manager Chris Hughton has said.

"It has not been quite enough this season", De Gea told Sky Sports.

"Fair enough we are battling to hang on to second place and hopefully we will fire until the final game to ensure that happens, but we have not managed to win our initial target which was to win the Premier League title".

Personally, when I read these reports I took them with a pinch of salt, because having watched plenty of Manchester United games over the years, it's quite clear to see that the Ivorian is the best central defender at the club at the moment.

Manchester United have lost at Newcastle and Huddersfield in the Premier League this season - they've never previously lost away against as many as three promoted sides in a single top-flight campaign before. "The fans and people at the club deserve better and that is what we have to do - fight to win big trophies".

From the start of the season, Jose Mourinho had something to prove to everybody, and he has made his point.

Should United fail to land the 27-year-old, they are likely to turn to Danny Rose of Tottenham or Celtic's Kieran Tierney.

Interviewed in his home state of Bahia, the player confirmed that José Mourinho has an "old affair" for him, and claimed that playing for Manchester United would be "a dream".

And whilst they may receive salvation in the form of a Europa League win, which would return them to the Champions League next term, that would first require them to overturn Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final on Thursday night.

De Gea has called on his team to step up.
