Time's Up movement calls for boycott of R. Kelly

We demand investigations into R. Kelly's abuse allegations made by women of color + their families for two decades.

Last year, a 24-year-old woman claimed that she had a sexual relationship with Kelly when she was a teen, but the singer denied the accusation and no criminal charges were filed.

The Women of Color Time's Up organization hopes to bring light to issues surrounding the #MeToo movement, specifically for women and girls of color. "The wounds run deep". In a Twitter post on Sunday to his fans, Kelly said he was looking forward to his May 11 concert and had no idea why his Chicago appearance was scrapped.

Women of Color of Time's Up aims to organize around issues that are especially important to women and girls of color.

U.S. stars have joined the #MuteRKelly movement which has been reignited by the Times Up campaign, resulting in one of his shows being cancelled.

Kenyan Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong'o has become the latest celebrity to joins calls to have American star musician Robert Sylvester Kelly alias R Kelly probed over alleged sexual misconduct.

Backing a social-media campaign dubbed #MuteRKelly, the women's movement urged the singer's record label as well as streaming services Spotify and Apple Music to drop him.

The statement ends with R. Kelly getting to what he believes to be the root of the matter: racism. "We understand criticising a famous artist is a good way to draw attention to those goals - and in this case, it is unjust and off-target".

"As women of color within Time's Up, we recognize that we have a responsibility to help right this wrong".

Kelly, who has been making music since the early 2000s, was indicted on 21 counts of child pornography, even though he was never found guilty by a grand jury in Chicago in 2008.
