Three Bodies of Missing Indian American Family Found; Little Boy Still Missing

The Thottapilly family, from Santa Clarita, disappeared in early April while driving in a Honda Pilot through the Redwood Coast Highway on vacation, officials said.

The bodies of his father and 9-year-old sister were found inside the submerged auto on Sunday and his mother's body was found last Friday.

"Searchers subsequently recovered the bodies of Sandeep Thottapilly and Saachi Thottapilly from inside the vehicle", the Sheriff Office said adding that the autopsies are expected to be performed this week as part of the coroner's investigation into the incident. Their disappearance coincided with reports that a vehicle had sunk into the Eel River in Northern California. They found two bodies inside the vehicle which were identified as those of 41-year old Sandeep Thottapilly, and his 9-year old daughter, Saachi.

Searchers located the auto Sunday in the Eel River and recovered the bodies of Sandeep Thottapilly, 41, and Saachi Thottapilly, 9, the Mendocino County sheriff's office said in a statement.

The family?s maroon SUV was seen falling into the river in northern Mendocino County from a pullout during a rainstorm. They'd been traveling south from OR along Highway 101 when the incident occurred, officials said.

In a statement on the rescue efforts, California's Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said, "At approximately 11:30 AM a boating team noticed a gasoline smell emitting from the water approximately 1/2 mile north of the reported crash site (downstream)". Soumya's body was found Friday while Sandeep and Saachi's bodies were found Sunday, the New York Times reported.

Around 70 searchers had been looking for the missing Thottapilly family near the Eel River in Leggett, California. This provided searchers the ability to conduct a visual inspection of the inside of the vehicle. About 6:30 p.m. a tow truck was able to partially pull the vehicle out and the bodies were found.

Five bodies were found March 26 near Mendocino, a few days after Washington state authorities began investigating the Harts for possible child neglect.
