Devils Rally to Climb Back Into Series Against Lightning

Hall was everything the Devils could've hoped for this season and on Monday in Game 3 against the Lightning, when he had a hand in the first three Devil goals in their 5-2 victory to cut the series deficit to 2-1.

The Lightning lead 2-0 in the series.

Game 4 is here on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. ET; GOLF, SN, TVAS2, MSG+, SUN).

Hall, appearing in the playoffs for the first time since being the No. 1 overall pick in 2010, downplayed his role. "He came in and played pretty well the other night, which was good to see, so we'll give him an opportunity here at home".

"We did bend a little bit in the third but didn't break, so it's a good feeling to be up 2-0", Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman said.

"When we wake up tomorrow, you look back and say: 'OK, which parts of the game did we do well.' And we'll be able to look at a lot of that tape and say we did really well".

The Devils had a lot of contributors.

Vasilevskiy stopped 41 shots, while limiting the Devils to rookie Nico Hischier's unassisted goal in the opening period and Sami Vatanen's sixth career playoff goal late in the second before Blake Coleman's third-period tally trimmed Tampa Bay's lead to 5-3 with eight minutes left. "We've got the emotional involvement now".

Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point and Tyler Johnson also scored for Tampa Bay, which is up 2-0 in the series after going 0-2-1 against the Devils during the regular season.

Tampa has 10 goals from six different players through two games, so why that will be a problem for Schneider and the Devils, they also have to figure out how to capitalize on their chances having out-shot the Lightning 54-47 at even strength so far. "You'd like to say you played the flawless game, but somebody else has a vote out there", coach Jon Cooper said Saturday after a 5-3 victory in Game 2 of the first-round matchup. "They got one and then they got momentum".

Relatives of the Thottapilly family positively identified the items as belongings of their family members, authorities said. They had been traveling south from OR along Highway 101 when the incident occurred, officials said.

Hall became the first Devil to record a three-point postseason game since Zach Parise on May 21, 2012, against the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference finals. It felt good to make a save or two like that going in, but at the same time it doesn't change what I'm trying to do. "He is a guy we have to watch, know when he is out there and take away his space".

Butcher tied the game after the Lightning were whistled for too many men on the ice.

"We were our own worst nightmare tonight", Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. Johansson will play his first game since suffering a concussion on January 23, while Schneider will start his first game in goal in the series.

Since returning on March 1, Schneider has a.850 save percentage.

By scoring New Jersey's first goal Monday, Hall relieved the pressure on his team and the mounting tension in the building.

Maple Leafs 4, Bruins 2 • Auston Matthews scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, Patrick Marleau had two goals, and Toronto beat visiting Boston in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference first-round series. Killorn scored his fourth goal of the series by tipping Kucherov's centering pass from the left corner over Schneider's stick. Why the fans chanted "M-V-P!" following his goal at 12:24 of the second period which tied the game, 1-1?

The Devils tied the game with 7:36 remaining in the second when Hall lifted a slap shot from the high shot under Vasilevskiy's legs.

Then with regulation winding down and sudden death overtime looming, Hall threaded a pinpoint pass to Noesen off the rush while drawing multiple defenders towards him. He hit the crossbar on a first-period breakaway.

"We did a great job in the third period". Killorn and Johnson each skated in their 50th career playoff game.

John Hynes shook up his lineup for this one, starting with putting Schneider back in goal after Keith Kinkaid, the backup who played well down the stretch and was the starter to open the playoffs, was yanked in the second period of Saturday's Game 2 loss.
