On the opposition parties accusing the UP government for "delaying the MLA's arrest", Singh alleged that former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had "shielded rape-accused minister" Gayatri Prajapati. "Our government will not compromise on this issue, no matter how influential the accused is, he will not be spared", said Chief Minister Adityanath in Jalaun. The CBI registered three cases on April 13 against accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in connection with the case. While scheduling the case to be heard on Friday, the HC had on Thursday slammed the police for the way it acted in dealing with the complaint made by the rape survivor. He said the high court was taken aback by the insensitive stand and callous attitude of the Advocate General, who represented the state government in court and received his brief from the highest levels.
