Mehbooba Mufti requests J&K High Court to fast track Kathua rape case

Bar Council of India (BCI) said on Sunday that a panel has been formed to probe the actions of Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association lawyers, who had stopped police from filing a chargesheet in the Kathua rape and murder case. It has strengthened my belief that Jammu serves as a model of inclusiveness, she said.

The Association made the announcement through a press release.


"While it may seem to get bogged down by different discourses at times, it's DNA of love and compassion always remains the same", she added.

Amid rumours that the PDP may seriously discuss the withdrawal of the party from the coalition, Chief Minister and party president Mehbooba Mufti held a meeting with all PDP lawmakers and party leaders in Srinagar.

The minor was allegedly kidnapped on January 10, and taken to a temple in Kathua, drugged and gangraped over days and finally killed to scare the nomadic Muslim community out of the village.

United Nations (UN) chief Antonio Guterres on Saturday termed the Kathua gangrape and murder case "horrific" and said he hoped that justice would be delivered.

On Friday the Supreme Court took a serious note of lawyers of the Jammu bar association obstructing the judicial process in the case and initiated a case on its own accord saying such impeding of the process of law "affects the delivery of justice".
