The SUV carrying their large family from Washington state accelerated straight off a scenic California cliff and authorities said the deadly wreck may have been intentional.

Five bodies were found March 26 but three children remain missing.

A truck drives by the pullout where the SUV of Jennifer and Sarah Hart was recovered off the Pacific Coast Highway, near Westport, Calif., Wednesday, March 28, 2018. On their return on April 5, they spoke of plans to stop and visit relatives in San Jose the following day, the San Jose Police Department said in a statement.

Jennifer Hart, the mother who drove her family off an oceanside cliff in a fatal crash, had a blood alcohol level that was over the state's legal limit, Capt. Bruce Carpenter of the California Highway Patrol said Friday.

In California, a person is legally drunk if they have a BAC of.08 or higher.

Sadly, two of the children were drugged with "a significant amount" of diphenhydramine, which is an ingredient found in Benadryl. Toxicology results for a third child killed are still pending, Carpenter said.

The auto has not been located, and the police said the search would continue for the vehicle and its occupants.

On Thursday, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said it had found belongings of the Thottapilly family, of Santa Clarita, as well as auto parts from their SUV about 14 miles down river from where investigators believe they rolled down an embankment.

Carpenter said the family stopped in the small town of Naselle, Washington, near their Woodland, Washington, home, during their drive to the California cliff but that investigators are still trying to determine why they stopped there and whether they contacted anyone.

Teams searching for a Southern California family of four whose Honda Pilot plunged into the south fork of the Eel River last week have found the body of a woman believed to be from the SUV, authorities said.

Police hadn't found the bodies of Devonte Hart and his adoptive sisters, 16-year-old Hannah Hart and 12-year-old Sierra. All-man says DNA analysis from family members will likely be utilised to identify her identity.

Sheriff Tom Allman said in a television interview earlier this month that Jennifer Hart "is the woman that we believe was driving the vehicle when it crashed".

In 2010, Sarah Hart pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault involving one of the children, according to Douglas County, Minnesota, court records.

Devonte, who captured the hearts of America in November 2014 when a photo of him hugging a police officer during a Ferguson-related rally in Portland went viral, told DeKalb and his wife that his parents withheld food as punishment.
