Bartolo Colon, who turns 45 next month, flirted with history Sunday night, taking a ideal game into the eighth inning against the World Series champion Houston Astros.

Carlos Correa, Josh Reddick, and Yuli Gurriel are scheduled to hit in the bottom of the eighth.

He said: "There's players all over the world Portugal, Spain - you name it - wherever". We could not play fast, we could not think fast, everything was complicated.

At 44 years and 326 days old, Big Sexy would have been the oldest pitcher in history to record a ideal game or a no-hitter. Reddick then lined an 0-2 delivery down the right-field line, putting runners at second and third and prompting a standing ovation from opposing fans in Houston. In the eighth, Colon walked Astros slugger Carlos Correa on five pitches before allowing a sharp double to Josh Reddick to break up the no-hit bid.

Colon was masterful with his comeback two-seamer on the night, and didn't really throw much else but the fastball. A fan favorite all around the majors, he is on his ninth team in the past 11 seasons. Colon ended up with a one-hitter in a 2-0 win at Yankee Stadium.

Verlander allowed just one run on a solo shot from Robinson Chirinos in the third inning.
