Warriors rout Spurs; Raptors, Sixers win

The Warriors, playing without leading man Steph Curry, found their playoff gear and dominated a hapless Spurs team on Saturday still struggling without Kawhi Leonard.

Double teams flew toward Aldridge in the post, and Golden State's defense rotated on a string to stifle any ball movement. He admitted he was of the view his team were prepared for the contest, but they were clearly not as they were out scored in every quarter except the last one when they registered two points more than the Warriors.

From the opening tip, Golden State was executing smart plays.

The explanations behind the far-less-than-stellar play all season (which still resulted in 58 wins, third-best in the NBA) were freaky and ever-changing: the Warriors were both exhausted and conserving energy, confident and yet concerned. The defense was really poor as far as following gameplan in the first quarter, and it's a bad combination to play defense like that and not shoot on the other end. The Warriors are just vastly more athletic and it allows them to create matchups and opportunities that work for them.

Kevin Durant contributed 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while JaVale McGee, plugged into the starting lineup, added 15 points plus a pair of blocks.

If someone told you at the beginning of the season that the Warriors and Spurs were going to meet in the playoffs, it would have been a believable statement-only you would have thought it'd be in the Western Conference finals or semifinals.

The NBA Playoffs first round series between the Spurs and Warriors tips off on Saturday, April 14 at 2 p.m. CT in Oakland. "We know how talented we are". Would we see "the Warriors" in their full, domineering glory now that the "real season" was starting?

"We were just very overly excited, overzealous", San Antonio guard Danny Green, who scored six points, said. "Today we anxious about the present, came out with a good game plan and executed it". We've won games without myself. A lot of people have tended to forget what we're capable of. He started forward Andre Iguodala over point guard Quinn Cook so the Warriors could easily switch screens to mitigate the success of San Antonio's free-flowing offense. Popovich has to try and catch lightning in a bottle as the Spurs are heading back to the Lone Star State in a 2-0 series hole.

Kerr praised the defensive effort after the game, " We finally got back to defending the way we have, the way this team has, for many years, even before I got here. With the second-best record in the West secured, and first place conceded to Houston, weren't they just tapping their toes until the first round? They (Pacers) played better basketball than us, They came out with a better strategy.

In Philadelphia, Ben Simmons had 17 points, 14 assists and nine rebounds in his playoff debut, and the Sixers romped again without Joel Embiid, beating Miami for its 17th straight win. "We got to do better than we think we can do".
