Surat rape victim's body bore 86 injury marks, says autopsy

After a five-hour long post-mortem, it was revealed that the girl was raped and tortured for at least eight days before being strangled to death.

Meanwhile, authorities in Surat launched a massive operation to ascertain the identity of the girl. "1200 posters have been posted across Surat for identification of girl".

According to Ganesh Govekar, Forensic Head, Civil Hospital, said, "The girl's body had 86 injury marks including ones on her private parts".

He added the victim - who was 11, has not yet been identified and that police from Gujarat's neighbouring states have been asked to help trace her family. The autopsy report claims her organs were ruptured using "stick or some blunt object".
