Brazier's 60-metre dash in extra time to complete a 17-12 win over the Rio Olympics champions Australia had silenced a boisterous local crowd at Robina Stadium on Sunday, so they switched their support to Fiji for the men's decider.

Looking to make the podium at the inaugural Commonwealth Games women's rugby sevens competition, England failed to make the most of a strong period of second-half pressure in their semi-final as they were comprehensively beaten 26-5 by the All Blacks, who went on to claim gold.

New Zealand even had an opportunity to put the game completely beyond doubt when Fiji's Sevuloni Mocenecagi was given a yellow card for an early tackle on Sam Dickson.

The men had three pool matches yesterday and needing to finish top of the pool to qualify for the semi finals they went three for three with wins over Zambia (54-0), Kenya (40-7) and Canada (33-7).

The Aussie Men will face Scotland in the fifth place playoff at 1:33pm AEST, before the Women take on New Zealand in the gold medal match at 2:42pm AEST.

"I thought "I'm out the front, I may as well not help anyone", so I got out there", she said.

"We're devastated. you can't fault the effort we put in but we don't like losing", Walsh said.

It consisted of five workshops facilitated by the five participating public high schools, with guest presenters and skits in between.

Canadian captain Ghislaine Landry opened the scoring in their semi clash with the defending Olympic champions. The New Zealand men celebrated later with a bare-chested haka on the field.

Portia Woodman was pulled down just short of the line, as England found some momentum, but Michaela Blyde found New Zealand's second just before the break.

"A number of our men's team were part of the silver medal winning team four years ago, so for them to experience gold today is a great result".

Charlotte Caslick, one of Australia's best at these games, didn't come back on in the second half after a head knock.

The victor will face Australia in the final.

Earlier in the semifinals, New Zealand beat England 17-12, while Fiji needed extra time to beat South Africa 24-19.
