But Guardiola is clearly furious with super-agent Mino Raiola because the Manchester City manager has sensationally revealed that he was offered the chance to sign both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba in January.

Guardiola was asked about his rivalry with United manager Jose Mourinho ahead of Saturday's Manchester derby which could see City clinch the Premier League title.

Perhaps Guardiola felt the need to shift attention from the tactical debacle with which he had placed City at a 3-0 Champions League quarter-final disadvantage against Liverpool two days previously.

Guardiola also said he was surprised with the offer when Raiola had earlier suggested he didn't want is players working with him. But, two months ago he offered me Mkhitaryan and Pogba to play with us.

"I don't understand why I am such a so bad guy". 'Why he offer? He was interested in Mkhitaryan and Pogba to play with us?

A Manchester United source has reportedly insisted that Paul Pogba was never going to join Manchester City during the January transfer window.

Pep Guardiola admits that winning the title against their rivals and Jose Mourinho would not make the win sweeter.

"Sometimes his teams, they beat me, sometimes I beat him, it's simple like that". I am not the kind of person that needs to protect his players, he can't take me his players like I was a dog.

Guardiola described Pogba, who is expected to start against City on Saturday, as an "incredible player" but said he couldn't afford the French midfielder. I'm a coward. I don't understand why I am a so bad guy. I never speak with him, so his opinion [about me], I don't know - maybe Ibra [Ibrahimovic] explained many things about me. And comparing to a dog is bad. "He must respect the dogs". I said no. 'We don't have the money enough to buy Pogba because he is so expensive'.

If so, everything Mourinho did in regards to Pogba would be an answer to Raiola more than the player himself.

"They are a fantastic club with a fantastic manager".

The timing of Guardiola's quotes in interesting given that City face off Pogba's United at the weekend in the 5.30 kick-off. A top, top player...

Pogba appeared surprised by the claims, tweeting "Say what?" soon after they were published.
