Hoosiers buy alcohol for first time on a Sunday

Eric Holcomb signed into law the legalization of Sunday carry-out sales - a first in state history. He was the first to take advantage of the new law at Baesler's Market in Terre Haute.

Retailers have been updating work schedules and adding new Sunday shifts since the passage of the bill.

Sunday, March 4 marked the first day residents of the Hoosier state can buy alcohol on Sundays. "Since it's one of the top shopping days of the week anyway, from our standpoint it just makes sense".

That's why some IL businesses could be seeing less Sunday sales because of the change.

Many were excited, but liquor store customers and employees don't expect overall sales numbers will change much. The Nick's Liquors chain in northwestern in is choosing to stay closed on Sundays, saying it didn't expect a big jump in sales.

Eleven states continue to ban Sunday liquor sales: Alabama, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and West Virginia.
