Four dog food products recalled over salmonella concerns

The companies involved in the recall of certain products are Smokehouse Pet Products, Darwins Dog Food, Red Barn Pet Products and Raw Paws Pet Food. "Therefore, if the cardboard case has been discarded, there are no unique identification numbers on the individual chubs that allow customers to determine that they possess the recalled products". One was a cat, but the other animal types have not been disclosed.

Smokehouse Pet Products is recalling its 4-ounce package of "Beefy Munchies" after routine testing by the Colorado USDA detected Salmonella in a sample collected from a pet store.

Healthy people who are infected with Salmonella may experience symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. But pets don't always have symptoms, which for them include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, loss of appetite and lethargy. Pets can get sick and/or carry the bacteria to infect humans.
