This is only the beginning though, as according to sources, Facebook intends to produce and entire range of video enabled devices and the touch-screen smart home speaker is the first of these developments. However, it's quite clear that Facebook is grooming the upcoming smart speakers to be direct rivals of Amazon's best-selling device, the Echo Show.

But the DigiTimes report comes after other similar reports.

"Supply chain sources said that Facebook was originally slated to release the devices in May, but has made a decision to reschedule the launch to allow more time for perfecting the acoustic quality of the gadgets and software modification", the report said on Wednesday.

It's rumoured that Mark Zuckerberg's social network is working two smart speakers models set for launch in 2018.

According to the sources, the company was supposed to launch both of the speakers in May but chose to push the launch to July.

Codenamed, Aloha and Fiona, both the speakers are designed by Facebook's Building 8 R&D center and will have massive 15-inch LG Display touchscreens.

Amazon outfitted the Echo Show with a 7-inch screen so that it could have a display panel that serves as an extension of the device's functions.

The Portal will also come with music, thanks to deals Facebook inked with Sony and Universal Music. A wide-angle lens on the front of the device will be able to recognize users. The company is reportedly doing its best to ensure stellar quality of its smart speakers.

Apple just launched the HomePod, it's own competitor to Amazon's Echos and Google's Homes, arriving late to the smart speaker party - well, Apple sells the speaker primarily as a high-end speaker than a smart one.

Amazon and Google are now the major players in the smart speaker business, with the former being the undisputed king of this product category.
