Brother of Hamas Foreign Minister Injured in Lebanon Car Bomb

An official in the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas was wounded in a vehicle bomb blast in the southern city of Sidon on Sunday, military and medical sources told French news agency AFP.

"Hamdan is an official in Hamas's security service". But al-Manar television, run by the Lebanese political and military group Hezbollah, described him as an important person in the group.

A leader of the Palestinian Fatah movement in Lebanon said Hamdan was involved in operations in Israel.

Security forces cordoned off the area and firefighters worked to put out the blaze.

Mohammed Hamdan suffered a leg injury on Sunday after a bomb planted in his vehicle detonated, Hamas' media group said in a statement.

Military and medical sources told AFP that a Hamas official was wounded, while Al Arabiya reported that Abu Hamza Hamdan was killed in the attack.

Sidon is home to the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon.

The statement added that the blast took place as he opened his auto in Al-Bustan Al-Kabir neighborhood in Sidon.
