Vuzix Launches Alexa-Enabled Digital Glasses

As you all may know that these both companies partnered in August a year ago to let Cortana and Alexa work together.

If it seems like Amazon is putting Alexa into absolutely everything, the e-commerce giant may feel like it has to in order to remain the clear No. 1 in the virtual assistant market. So for those who do not have an account yet but are already planning to purchase the smart glasses, there is still time. Based on performance to date, we feel that Alexa is the superior service, and we welcome the chance to have an element of choice.

The Blade has one advantage over your audio-only Echo speaker, however.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Microsoft could abandon Cortana entirely. The effect is to make Alexa a ubiquitous presence in our lives.

There are still several unanswered questions surrounding the move, though.

Not everyone is a fan of voice-assistant technology, of course. This means that all the window 10 users are going to get this update in upcoming days. However, with the advent of smart home devices, Cortana's greatest weakness proved to be its lack of smart home controls. Even so, it can still generate weather reports, set reminders, offer directions and generate news headlines.

Vuzix is in the business of smart glasses for over 20 years. At CES 2018, a slew of devices were lined up to showcase the debut of Alexa on Windows 10 PCs.

Acer's batch of Alexa-supported devices include Aspire, Spin, Switch, and Swift notebook series. The Alexa integration in the United States will be available via a software update through Acer Care Centre, but its wider availability is expected for sometime in the mid of 2018.

As with HP, the Pavilion Wave will be the first to come designed specifically with offerings for voice interactions via Amazon Alexa. With the official entry, Alexa will be capable of accessing calendars and lists in addition to replying through voice commands. Powering the desktop is a 6th Generation Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB hard disk storage and Intel HD 530 Graphics. Vuzix's Alexa integration is part of an Amazon program that allows third-party hardware manufacturers to put the digital assistant into their products.
