Nicholson's 68-year-old mother, Lydia, went to check on her son but Nicholson started arguing with her and ended up breaking his headset for the video game in an outburst.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from an incident involving a broken video game headset.

Loren Nicholson then called the police, at around 9:50 pm, to report the crime and call for medical attention for his wife.

During their investigation, police determined 28-year-old Matthew Nicholson had been in his bedroom playing video games when he became upset and started yelling. "The father grabbed the gun, emptied it".

Lydia Nicholson was taken to the hospital where she died. A fourth struck his mother in the head, killing her.

"My mom was a wonderful person who loved her children". A long-time friend of the family elaborated, telling FOX40, "I understand that he would've killed the father too, but the gun jammed".

Having the game disconnect from the server each time you sleep the Switch would be a major pain in the ass. It is also now being speculated that the multiplayer will be expanded to support up to six players.

Lydia worked and volunteered in local schools. A neighbor told the TV station the family was friendly, and that this murder was surreal. "Speechless", said Ron Kutzman, a neighbor of the Nicholson family.

Nicholson then retrieved a handgun from the home and fired two rounds into an inside wall and then shot his mother in the head, according a Modesto Bee report.

Police located the 28-year-old's vehicle in Riverbank and took him into custody without further incident.

Investigators are still working to determine what drove Nicholson to kill his own mother.

Nicholson was being held in Stanislaus County Jail with no bond. "Was it the video game or was there something else going on".
