International Olympic Committee 'considering joint Korea hockey team'

This offer comes on the heels of a landmark deal between the warring nations that allows North Korea to send a delegation of athletes, fans, and high-ranking government officials to the South for the upcoming Olympics in Pyeongchang.

The U.S. and other world powers want North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons program.

The ministry said the message was signed by North Korea's chief delegate to the recent high-level inter-Korean talks Ri Son-gwon and addressed to Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon.

The North said it will inform the South of a date to discuss sending athletes and a cheering squad to the PyeongChang Olympics at a later time.

The Moranbong band is an all-female music group performing pop, rock and fusion styles, whose members are reportedly selected by the leader Kim Jong-Un himself.

A joint march at the opening ceremony would be a stunning statement for the so-dubbed "Peace Olympics", which will open about 80 kms from the heavily fortified Korean border on February 9.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham has said he opposed inviting the North Korean delegation to the Games.
