Girl Scout Cookie sales begin February 3

Cookies will be sold at traditional booths, door-to-door and online.

The girls are kick-starting their sales early.

After last year's 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts selling cookies, troops across Nebraska will kick off this season February 2 with the return of Girl Scout S'mores, the most popular new flavor in the history of the Girl Scout Cookie Program.

If you're not in the San Jacinto area, however, there are plenty of ways to give back while getting your cookie fix this year. The program runs through March 25.

Proceeds will benefit local troops' community service projects.

During the cookie selling season the girls "earn and learn". "They use it to fund their activities". Some of the money the council gets from the cookies is for camps and programming or financial assistance and things like that.

Beginning Friday, you can buy and chow down on some Girl Scout cookies.

Abilene's troops are members of the Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains. In 1922, the organization's cookie recipe and business plan were shared and in 1925 the scouts' S'mores recipe was first published.

Choices include S'mores, Thin Mints, Caramel deLites/Samoas, Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs, Shortbread/Trefoils, Do-si-dos/Peanut Butter Sandwich, Lemonades, Savannah Smiles, Thanks-A-Lot, Toffee-tastic and Trios. Girl Scouts is the best girl leadership experience in the world.
