"Given that we invented the room thermostat back in the late 1800s, it's something that Johnson Controls is naturally oriented to do".

And Ecobee4 has brought Amazon's Alexa to the smart thermostat arena at a price of $249 which beats the $319 price tag GLAS will have when it's available for preorder in March.

Again, it's powered by Microsoft's Cortana voice assistant, so you can do all this with voice commands if you wish.

Users can also take advantage of Cortana, which is integrated into the smart thermostat, to control GLAS. Just like other smart thermostats already in the market, it can continuously monitor air quality and humidity in your home and intelligently adjust temperature to save energy. The integration of Cortana into the GLAS thermostat allows the adjusting of temperature using your voice.

GLAS supports seven day scheduling, with different temperature set-points for Home, Sleep, and Away.

Microsoft claims that the smart thermostat backed up by its cloud and machine learning chops will help GLAS reduce the energy consumption of a user's dwelling. You can also use it to manage your calendar, check the weather, traffic reports, and pretty much anything else that Cortana can do. As the name implies, it's a translucent OLED touchscreen. It has a dual-array microphone and a speaker for Cortana feedback, and runs Windows 10 IoT Core inside on a Snapdragon 410E processor with WiFi and Bluetooth.

Those interested will be able to install GLAS in residential or commercial buildings and it'll support most 24VAC heating and cooling systems, which include most gas, electric, oil, radiant and forced air systems.
