Three dead in Zaveri Bazaar building collapse

On Friday afternoon, a part of a staircase collapsed in a Chippi Chawl, Zaveri Bazaar killing two labourers and rescuing one. The building, which belonged to the Maharashtra Housing Development Authority (MHADA), was undergoing fix when the collapse occurred, DNA reported.

Firemen said while all those feared missing have been pulled out, "a fire engine and a rescue van are stationed at the spot as a precautionary measure since the authorities are demolishing the structure", said chief fire officer P Rahangdale.

"An inquiry by the chief engineer has been ordered and he has been asked to examine whether the contractor had taken adequate precautions while carrying out fix work".
