GoFundMe account for slain Hamilton teen may be scam: Cops

Police are hoping to speak with the man who created the account.

"We have been trying to reach the person who started the page to find out what his intentions are", Doerr said Thursday.

He was shot just after 9 p.m., and died at St. Joseph's hospital about an hour later.

A Medical Sciences student at Brock, Yosif was leaving a mosque on Saturday night when he noticed two men were accosting an elderly man. Al-Hasnawi, being remembered as a hero, stepped in to help the senior, but was shot by one of the two men.

Initially scheduled to be held in a classroom, the vigil is being moved to the large Pond Islet at Brock to accommodate what is expected to be a large turnout.

After nearly five days of searching, Police have arrested the alleged suspect in the death of Brock student Yosif Al-Hasnawi.

The university is also collecting donations to establish the Yosif Al-Hasnawi Memorial Fund, which will be used to establish a scholarship in his name. King is being charged with second degree murder. Police say they have notified GoFundMe about the unauthorized nature of the page.

Police investigators had encouraged him to turn himself in and were cautioning anyone assisting King that their actions will be the subject of investigation and they could face charges of accessory after the fact to murder.

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the shooting at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday.
