Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is getting a two-player versus mode

Mario and his friends will use hundreds of never-before-seen weapons to strategically take out enemies in true Rabbids style - with the occasional well-timed misfire.

"You may be accustomed to moving, attacking, and using techniques for each of your heroes during every turn in the campaign and co-op, but Versus is a different story", Ubisoft said. Utilizing combat tactics and the cover system, players will explore the four unique worlds with their team of heroes defeating foes, gathering collectibles and solving puzzles along their quest.

Interestingly, the mode disables the characters and builds you've unlocked and created in the main game, instead forcing you to pick from a number of pre-set builds for each fighter.

Ubisoft will release an update for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle this week that adds a new competitive Versus mode to the Nintendo Switch game. They successfully launched the hottest console of the year, have multiple first party titles in contention for game of the year and are selling high-margin plastic figurines faster than the factory can make them. Notably, Versus mode will only provide three actions for players per turn.

Surprising and random bonus items are available on the battlefields, conferring additional actions, double damage or other advantages to the player who collects them. Players will also be able to select either all-Rabbid or all-Mushroom Kingdom-based teams, unlike in the main game where players had to have Mario and at least one Rabbid on their team at all times.
