Rian Johnson 'excited' about new 'Star Wars' trilogy

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran and Benicio del Toro.

"I'm just in the very beginning of starting to come up with what the new trilogy is going to be", he told a fan event in Mexico in a clip you can watch below.

He will also creatively oversee each of them alongside longtime collaborator Ram Bergman who also worked on "Star Wars: The Last Jedi".

And while the Powers That Be initially flirted with the idea of resurrecting Fisher for Episode IX - think of how Grand Moff Tarkin was brought back from the grave in time for Rogue One - Lucasfilm's bigwigs soon scrapped those tentative plans, meaning Star Wars: The Last Jedi will signal Leia's final appearance in the Skywalker saga.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said: "We all loved working with Johnson on "The Last Jedi".
