This should come as good news for Hulu subscribers and The Handmaid's Tale fans who are eager for that second season.
Season 2 of the drama series will consist of 13 episodes and be centered around Offred's (Elisabeth Moss) pregnancy, focusing specifically on her battle to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. Season one was released on April 26, 2017.
"'Gilead is within you' is a favourite saying of Aunt Lydia".
At the Emmys in September, the Hulu drama picked up eight of its thirteen nominations, including wins for Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Moss), Best Directing for a Drama Series (Morano), and Best Writing for a Drama Series (Miller). The announcement was made alongside a brief teaser video, confirming that season 2 is now in development as well as hinting that there is "no turning back".
Harvey Weinstein Sued by Jane Doe Over Alleged 2016 Rape
Weinstein allegedly kept in contact with the woman over the years, inviting her to industry events like parties and award shows. That 2016 meeting turned into a sexual assault that saw Weinstein penetrating the woman forcefully and against her will.
Based on Margaret Atwood's 1985 dystopian novel of the same name, The Handmaid's Tale was a massive critical hit when it premiered in April this year.
"It's insane! I can say this: There is literally no way that anyone can guess what happens", Elisabeth told Entertainment Weekly. "You can try, but you won't do it". It's incredible. We're really looking to blow people away, and we have every intention to break [the story] open and go even further in all directions. Season two will deviate even more from the book than season one, since the plot of the book has already run its course in the show. The Path season 3 premieres on Hulu on January 17.
