According to Hits Daily Double, the album is projected to debut with 1.30-1.34 million pure U.S. sales. It's the first album to sell a million copies in a tracking week in almost two years, since Adele's 25 sold 1.16 million copies in the frame ending December 25, 2015 (the album's fifth week on sale).
The record is now on track to sell an estimated 1.5 million in its first week - and that's all without putting the album on streaming services.
Swift this week announced the first US dates of what is expected to be a world tour to promote the album.
Sandy Hook families renew legal push against gun maker
The legal landscape of suing firearms manufacturers has been mixed, with some lawsuits failing and others succeeding. The rifle was used to kill 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School nearly five years ago.
"Reputation" is Swift's fourth consecutive album to sell more than a million copies in its first week.
This makes it the first album to sell a million copies in a week since Adele's 25 moved 1.16 million copies on the week ending December 25th, 2015.
This million-sales week does give Swift a leg up over Adele in one respect, though: Since Nielsen Music began electronically tracking music sales in 1991, Swift is now the sole artist to have four million-selling weeks. Her latest album Reputation is full of songs that are about, depending on the track and what theory you believe, Kanye West, Calvin Harris, Tom Hiddleston, and Joe Alwyn.
