IO Interactive confirms work has begun on the next Hitman

IO, the owners of the Hitman series, have had a tense few months as Square Enix pulled out of the game as a publisher, leaving the future of the series in doubt.

We know that Io Interactive had become an independent studio again not for a long time ago and it was a challenging and hard period for all of them. He states, "we needed to focus inwards at what we want IOI to stand for, in terms of our employees, or culture, and our ambitions and dreams for the future".

In a post on IO Interactive's website, the developer has announced that a new Hitman game is in the works.

If IO just moves on to another Hitman game without really resolving the plot of the 2016 one, they might be dealing with a lot of angry (or at least greatly annoyed) fans who really want the plot resolved instead of IO moving on to another game.

Hitman GOTY Edition will include new outfits and weapons along with themed Escalation Contracts and will also include the new Patient Zero bonus campaign DLC which contains 4 new missions.

Not long ago, we were anxious that Hitman was gone forever, so this is definitely good news. The post, by CEO Hakan Abrak confirms that "great progress" is being made and that we should expect to find out more next year.

"We don't plan to start talking about that [the game] until some point in 2018", Abrak continued.

"We're in this together and we promise that we will channel our passion and skills to shine through in everything that comes from this studio".
