According to the trade, the Catan movie is being fast-tracked by Sony in hopes it can launch a film franchise. And that inspired another question: are there any board games that would make for great movies? While game fans are waiting for its upcoming #Movie Adaptation, it was also learned that Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard were among the high-profile fans of the game.

"Catan" is just the latest board game to move to the big screen, joining "Battleship", "Ouija", and of course, the cult classic "Clue". With movies based on all kinds of toys and the like - such as The LEGO Movie and The Emoji Movie - studios are looking to license films based on popular pieces of pop culture and Settlers of Catan is an unsurprising candidate. It was previously reported that Katz acquired the rights to The Settlers of Catan in 2015.

There's no denying that The Settlers Of Catan is a very popular property - it's believed that the game may have sold close to 20 million copies worldwide.

Original Xbox Backward Compatibility is "really close", says Phil Spencer
So we're giving gamers a choice. "With Minecraft on PlayStation , we have to be one of the biggest games on their platform in terms of sales and gameplay", Spencer said.

Those rights are now held by producer Gail Katz (AIR FORCE ONE), who snagged the feature film and TV rights to Catan over two years ago. Meanwhile, Blaise Hemingway will be drafting the screenplay. The game revolves around a group of settlers who are attempting to establish colonies on the island of Catan.

"We're excited to be working with Sony to bring the iconic world of Catan to life", Katz said.

If you know anything about boardgames, chances are you've heard of Settlers of Catan. "It's not every day that you have the opportunity to work in a world beloved by millions of people, and expand its story for the screen". Upon its original release in 1995, game critics in Germany honored Catan with its prestigious game of the year award.
