A New Orleans mayoral candidate was arrested on a charge of lewd conduct after police said he was found with his trousers pulled down in the back of an Uber in Santa Monica, Calif., reported.

In February, the driver told police she heard suspicious noises during the drive and pulled over to find Scurlock with his genitals in his hand, White said.

The Advocate also reached Scurlock, who acknowledged someone in California had made an allegation against him, but said he didn't know much more about the case, nor the charge he faces.

Court records show Scurlock is scheduled for an arraignment hearing in a Los Angeles courthouse on October 16 at 8:30 in the morning.

A female driver allegedly caught Frank Scurlock, 55, pleasuring himself in the back seat while on his way to a Hollywood hotel in February this year. The woman stopped the vehicle and opened the passenger auto door and discovered Scurlock with his penis exposed and masturbating, White said.

If convicted, Scurlock could be required to register as a sex offender in California, White said.

The "Make New Orleans Fun Again" candidate who ran with a pledge to "Uberize" the police department was later arrested after being identified from a photo lineup. "I await my day in court and expect to be vindicated".

Scurlock told the Advocate that the charges are "without merit". He was initially charged with obstructing a public passage, but the charge was later changed to assault before a judge dismissed the case altogether, The Times-Picayune reports. "Spacewalk is in its third generation of family leadership under his son Mials Scurlock". Murphy at that point bought Scurlock out of the family business, he said.
