Sehwag, who was one of the candidates interviewed to fill Kumble's vacancy, said that he only applied for the India-coach job after being asked to by BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary, the move was supported by India captain Virat Kohli, and he did it because Ravi Shastri told him he would not apply for the position.

This time, he took a swipe at Team India head coach Ravi Shastri, casually asserting that he was not selected for the job role of team India coach due to no connections with the BCCI.

"My fear always was I had played cricket for 15 years, stayed away from the family, so if I enter coaching I would again become busy for seven to eight months travelling with the Indian team".

Asked why did he apply if he was not keen in the initial stages, his reply was "I thought since they are requesting me, I should help them. Hence I never thought about coaching and will not think [of it] anymore in the future".

He already has 47 global centuries and close to 20000 runs to his name at the highest level of the game and with the peak years of a sportsperson still ahead of him, Sehwag believes that the best is yet to come from Kohli.

Sehwag claims to have spoken with Shastri during the Champions Trophy earlier this year, that reveals that the latter said that he had no intentions of applying for the job.

The Dow inched up 0.2% to reach another record high while the Nasdaq Composite dropped half a percent and the S&P 500 slid 0.1%. In the commodities market, oil futures fell modestly in Asia, extending Thursday-afternoon declines in the U.S.

Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is among the most popular cricketers of the modern era.

It is clear that Sehwag remains hurt about the snub and he has made it clear that he will never apply for the position again in the future.

"If Ravi had applied earlier, then I don't think there would have been any chance of me applying for the post". Shastri then told me that he will not repeat the mistake which he had already made once.

Sehwag said he had consulted former-teammate Kohli before applying for the job. I also had a word with Virat Kohli, he asked me to go for it. Sehwag also spoke with Kohli, who supported the move he said. "It's only about the team where even if I score a 90 not out and the team goes across the line, it's good enough for me", Kohli had said in Sri Lanka. "I would have never applied." added the "Nawab of Najafgarh". "If you asked me if I had interest in coaching, I did not have any". "Whatever be the standard of the opposition, a score of 9-0 is unprecedented in Indian cricket".

The Indian captain recently took to Twitter to post a short video of him doing one-handed push-ups, an arduous exercise for many. "At this stage, I am preparing for the auction", he said.
