Tech stays at No. 176 in new college rankings

Providence College has been named the top university in the northern region, leading a list of 196 schools ranked through U.S. News and World Report, while other local schools including Rhode Island's Bryant University and Connecticut's Quinnipiac University find themselves sitting within the top 25 in the latest rankings.

The Naperville college's 2017 placement No. 10 is the 24th consecutive year U.S. News & World Report has ranked North Central among America's Best Colleges.

The universities are ranked using a methodology that considers factors like endowment size, rate of alumni giving and student-to-faculty ratio. The senator detailed some ideas to improve student life at UH-Hilo during this recent presentation before students and faculty.

According to the rankings, Bluffton University ranks 27th among 80 comparable regional colleges in 12 Midwest states.

U.S. News Best Colleges rankings are billed as a starting point "for families concerned with finding the best academic value for their money". Iowa State University in Ames came in at No. 53 in the public schools list, two spots down from last year, and at No. 115 in the national universities list, dropping four spots from the previous year. This ranking list is based on public high school and private independent school counselors' opinions regarding which universities offer the best education to students. The highest ranking Tech received was No. 4 on the Best Undergraduate Petroleum Engineering Programs list.
