The 30,349 girls and 31,305 boys will receive 616,000 individual grades across 25 subjects throughout today in their schools and on the State Examinations Commission's website.

The results will show how students fared in the new English marking system.

The number of students achieving top marks in the Junior Certificate has fallen this year. Fifty-four received 11 As and 240 got 10.

There are no longer A, B or C grades in English, with students instead receiving one of six "grade descriptors", such as a Distinction, Merit, or an Achieved. The dual presentation of marks will continue until 2021 when the Junior Certificate is phased out and replaced entirely with the new Junior Cycle.
