Schools plan to close ahead of Hurricane Irma

Officials said a decision will be made later this week on whether classes will be held Monday.

All after school activities will also be cancelled on Wednesday.

School District leaders will continue to work closely with County, State and Federal emergency management officials to assess Irma's impact on the District, and determine when it is safe for schools and offices to reopen.

Miami Country Day School will be shut from Wednesday through the finish of the week and Gulliver Schools and Ransom Everglades will be shut Thursday and Friday. Some institutions, including the University of Miami and Florida International University, opted to add an extra buffer between the storm and closed on Wednesday. Just basic school region staff will be made a request to take a shot at Thursday and Friday.

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County is requesting residents refrain from cutting down whole trees or doing major yard or construction projects until after the storm passes.

Broward College: As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, classes are scheduled as normal.

Florida Atlantic University canceled all classes from Wednesday, Sept. 6 to Sunday, Sept 10.
