The Red Cross disagreed with the Senate report, saying it accounted for every penny spent in Haiti and pointing out that investigators found no fraud or abuse in its natural disaster relief efforts.

The organization said that on Saturday night alone at least 32,399 people sought refuge in 226 Red Cross and partner shelters across Texas, where there are more than 2,700 disaster workers on the ground and more than 660 on the way. Our response to Katrina included waves of volunteers who were trained who stayed for months on end or weeks and were relieved by other teams. They are exhausted. They're working hard and they are thankful to be making a difference.

Other than responding to natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey, Red Cross offers emergency hotel stays, food and clothing for those who are displaced as a result of natural or manmade disasters such as floods, house fires, hazardous material spills and vehicle accidents.

Jaggers said the American Red Cross will be offering a training boot camp from noon to 4 p.m. September 8 for anyone who wants to volunteer locally or nationally.
