Also Sunday, quarterback Taylor Heinicke and wide receiver R.J. Shelton, waived by Minnesota on Saturday with injury designations, both cleared waivers and were placed on injured reserve.

After he arrives from Denver, Sloter will be one of three quarterbacks throwing at Vikings practice on Tuesday behind starter Sam Bradford and backup Case Keenum. Dielman was awarded to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Vikings began to set their practice squad on Sunday by making a significant investment in a quarterback. The Vikings almost tripled the standard $7,200 per week practice salary to land Sloter, who attracted interest from multiple teams, including the Broncos. He started his college career as a receiver at Southern Miss before transferring to Northern Colorado, where Sloter threw for a program record 29 touchdown passes as a senior.

Jump ahead 365 days ahead and Sloter, who replaced the shoulder-injured Knipp in game 2 last season, was the subject of a bidding war involving the Broncos, Washington and Minnesota.

Sloter, 23, will give the Vikings at least eight on the practice squad.

Sterling can bounce back from criticism - Southgate
Sterling was reportedly open to a move back to London but it never came to fruition, and less than 24 hours after the deadline passed, he started for England in Malta.

Sloter, who started out as a receiver at Southern Mississippi before transferring to Northern Colorado and starting at quarterback previous year, completed 31 of 43 passes for 413 yards, three TDs and no interceptions in the preseason.

Kyle Peko, who spent most of the past year on that practice squad, will join the team's 53-man roster in place of Shane Ray who will spend at least the first half of the season on injured reserve. And did the Broncos do right by signing Osweiler and losing Sloter? Raymond almost made the Broncos' 53-man roster, but was the seventh man out.

He had a hard time when facing Denver's No. 1 defense last week at practice, however.

Given another chance, the Jets to pass on Raymond this time as they claimed him off waivers before the Broncos had a chance to bring him back on their practice squad.
