The High Court bench has been during the past few days hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a Panchkula resident, who raised law and order concerns stating that over 1.5 lakh people had entered the district despite prohibitory orders.

The Dera has been directed not to sell or transfer its properties. It also sought a status report on the deaths caused by the violence.

"We have ordered a search of all "naam charcha ghars" (congregation centres) of the Dera Sacha Sauda wherever located in Haryana", state Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Ram Niwas told PTI.

"Despite having knowledge and widespread apprehension of trouble and violence, the BJP government and the Chief Minister of Haryana did not take adequate preventive measures".

An Indian court on Friday found the controversial and hugely popular spiritual leader Gurmeet Ram Rahim guilty of raping two of his female followers in a 15-year-old case, Hindustan Times reported.

Mets' Conforto dislocates shoulder after swinging at
Conforto has been a lone bright spot for the Mets during this disastrous 2017 season, two things that simply were not expected. While deGrom has cooled off recently, he still has dominant numbers being 5th in wins in the National League , and 8th in ERA.

But then absurdity is the defining feature of this administration - a brilliant example of which was the unsavoury sight of Haryana policemen caught on camera retreating, even as Ram Rahim supporters advanced menacingly.

Here are the developments that took place through the day.

Self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been lodged in Sunaria jail's "approval cell" in Rohtak after being convicted in a 2002 rape case, officials said on Saturday. Army, police and paramilitary forces had been deployed in great numbers to control the anticipated riots.

Dera followers had started pouring in at the headquarters here in run-up to the verdict but the sprawling campus is now witnessing a steady exodus of the devotees. All objectionable objects have been seized and Dera has been completely vacated says Kaithal DC. Given the police's and government's earlier assurances, which meant nothing yesterday when over 30 people were killed, his words fell on deaf ears; the town stayed tense and people locked themselves indoors. "We had verified the facts from the authorities concerned on Friday at 8.30pm about any preferential treatment to the dera head". The court responded with scathing strictures on Saturday blaming the political establishment for acts of commission and omission that "allowed the city of Panchkula to burn for political gains". "Seven people belonging to Punjab died in Panchkula", the Chief Minister said.
