Cespedes leaves the game

One day after Michael Conforto left a game when he dislocated a shoulder while swinging a bat, Yoenis Cespedes left a game against the Nationals in the first inning.

New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes continues to have hamstring problems this season, exiting Friday's game against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in the first inning.

UPDATE: Cespedes is going on the disabled list with a hamstring injury, and it appears from early reports that the outlook isn't good.

Cespedes came up lame attempting to score from second base on a Dominic Smith single to center field. That stint cost Cespedes 38 games, so chances are his season is over.

"This is new for me, for anybody else that's probably ever managed to have these kind of things pop up", Mets manager Terry Collins said of his team's rough luck with injuries.

"Of course I'm going to work hard to try to come back as soon as I can", Cespedes said.

Cespedes rounded third base and immediately began hobbling, struggling to put weight on the right leg while laboring to home plate.

The Mets are long out of the pennant race, so this injury isn't a huge deal to New York's playoff hopes. This one, in particular, is so frustrating because I think right before this I felt the best I've felt all season long.

"I've just had injury after injury".

NY lost outfielder Michael Conforto on Thursday with a dislocation and tear of his left shoulder.
